This coloring page shows a baby pteranodon with large round eyes and a slender head crest, tucked into a nest woven from branches and scattered leaves, set on a rocky mound ringed with pebbles. Ferns with finely cut fronds frame the scene, a tall palm stands to the right, and a volcano smokes in the distance above rolling hills. There are no eggs and no other animals — the little dino has the nest to itself, one wing spread slightly out. The line work shifts a lot: the baby's head, belly and wing are large, smooth shapes great for a first attempt at coloring. The woven nest and fern fronds, on the other hand, stack up many tight little lines that call for more care. This printable page suits ages 6-7 for the broad shapes, and closer to 8-9 to finish the nest and foliage, in about 30 to 45 minutes. To keep the weave readable, color each strand of the nest one at a time rather than as one block, using a fine felt-tip for the fern leaflets and a broader crayon for the head and belly.
