This coloring page shows a diplodocus standing in profile, neck raised and its smiling face turned toward the left. Its long tail lifts up behind it and curls into a spiral. Large oval spots mark its back, with smaller ones running down its neck. It stands among several bushy palm trees, in front of a smoking volcano in the background and low hills, with calm water along the horizon. On the ground, spiky fern clumps and rounded rocks fill out the scene. The body of this dino is outlined in thick, clean lines, leaving large open areas that suit younger children well. The palm trees ask for more care, since their many thin fronds work better for an older or more patient colorist. The oval spots on the back give separate little zones to vary shade by shade. Plan on roughly 25 to 30 minutes to finish the whole picture with care. Coloring the back spots before the rest of the body keeps the color from spreading onto the large surrounding surfaces. A fine-tip marker works better than a thick crayon for the palm fronds and the volcano's smoke plume.
