A diplodocus with its long neck raised walks with a smile beside a stream scattered with round pebbles. Large oval spots cover its back, the base of its neck and its long tapering tail trailing behind it. Palm trees stand on either side of the scene, framed by ferns and broad leaves in the foreground. Farther back, between the trunks, a volcano sends up a cloud of smoke above the hills. The outline is thick and rounded, drawn for young colorists: the long neck and belly give wide, easy surfaces to fill without going over the lines, while the spots on the skin, the ferns and the volcano's smoke ask for a steadier hand. The main shapes take about twenty minutes, longer if every palm frond and every pebble in the stream gets its own color.
