The adult triceratops fills most of the page, head turned toward the viewer with a wide smile, three horns and a frill covered in large oval markings and smaller round spots along its back and tail. Two young triceratops stand close together between its front legs, each with tiny horns and its own frill pattern. Behind them a volcano releases a curling plume of smoke, two palm trees lean to the right, ferns unfurl on the left, and rounded rocks sit among spiky tufts of grass in the foreground. The wide spots on the adult's back and frill give plenty of room for a young child's first attempt at this coloring page, while the two babies, the smoke curls and the fern fronds ask for a steadier hand around their smaller lines. A child of about five or six can finish the large areas alone in under twenty minutes, longer if every baby dinosaur and leaf gets its own careful pass. Since the spots repeat down the back in a clear rhythm, picking one color for all the large ovals and a second for the skin between them keeps the pattern readable instead of muddled.
