DEFENDING STEGOSAURUS #1

A stegosaurus stands on four sturdy legs, head turned toward the viewer with a gentle smile and a round, friendly eye. Down its curved back runs a row of large rounded plates that continues along a long tail ending in two small spikes. Oval spots dot its body. Behind it, a volcano sends up a plume of smoke, framed by two coconut palms, while clumps of fern fronds and rounded rocks sit at its feet on a wavy ground line. The outline is thick and even, with no hatching or repeated patterns inside the shapes: the belly, the legs, the volcano cone and each plate form large closed areas that fill in quickly. Only the palm leaflets and the small back spots ask for a steadier hand. This coloring page suits younger children well, taking about fifteen to twenty minutes to complete. Since the row of back plates dominates the middle of the sheet, coloring them first gives the drawing depth before moving on to the smaller ferns and rocks.
