A baby dino stands upright on its hind legs, head turned toward us with a wide grin and one large round eye. Its short front legs, each tipped with claws, are raised in front of its chest, while a long tail curves down to the ground. Small oval spots run along its head, back and tail. It stands on an oval patch of ground scattered with little pebbles, flanked by ferns and palm trees; behind it, two volcanoes ringed with palms send up a puff of smoke. Two round, ridged rocks sit on either side of the scene. The outline is steady and medium-thick, closing off very different sized areas: the spots on the dino's body are small and numerous, while the belly, the volcano slopes and the palm fronds give large, easy sections to fill in. That contrast suits children roughly 6 to 9 years old — younger ones can take the big shapes, older ones can tackle the leaf veins and rock texture. Expect around 25 to 35 minutes to finish the page. Because the spots are so numerous, color them first with a fine-tip marker before moving to the wider areas with crayon or a broad marker, so the small shapes don't get lost.
