STEGOSAURUS FAMILY #23

A large adult stegosaurus bends its head down to nibble a broad, deeply cut leaf plant in the middle of the scene. Two young stegosaurs join it: one stands near a pair of palm trees on the left, the smaller one pecks at a tuft of grass on the right. Rounded back plates run down each animal's spine, noticeably bigger on the adult. Behind them, a volcano sends up a puff of smoke, framed by scattered rocks and two coconut-topped palms. The linework is clean and fairly bold, with generous open spaces on the back plates and body of the adult dino, making this an easy coloring page to start with. The oval spots scattered across the skin call for steadier hands, as do the many small leaflets on the foreground plant. This printable suits children from about age 5-6 for the large areas, with a bit of help needed for the foliage and rocks; the whole scene takes around twenty minutes. To tell the three generations apart without extra colors, keep one base shade for the plates and just vary how dark the spots are between the adult and the babies — it reads more clearly than a different palette for each.
