A sweeping crest curls up and back from this young Parasaurolophus's head as it stands smiling and looks straight out of the page. Its rounded back is dotted with large oval spots of different sizes, and its four feet rest on a patch of ground scattered with small stones. A palm tree rises on each side of the scene, with clumps of feathery ferns growing at their base, and behind the dino a volcano sends up a puff of smoke between the two trees. The outline is thick and rounded, drawn for young colorists: the dino's body and the ground beneath it give large, easy areas to fill in first. The oval spots on its back call for a steadier hand to stay inside their edges, and the same goes for the layered fern leaves and palm fronds.
