This ankylosaurus stands in profile, facing right, with a calm smile, on ground scattered with angular rocks and ferns. Its back is covered in large oval plates, each hollowed out with a spiral, interspersed with smaller plain circles. Short horns sit on its cheeks and another on the tip of its snout. Its club tail, ringed with triangular spikes, curls away to the left. Behind it, three palm trees frame a volcano puffing a round cloud of smoke. The outline is clean and fairly thick for the body, but every plate on the back holds a fine spiral that calls for a fine-tip marker or a sharply sharpened pencil. Big areas like the belly, legs and volcano slope fill in fast, while the spirals and tail spikes take longer. This coloring page suits children from about 6 or 7 for the large shapes, a little older for the spirals; plan on 30 to 40 minutes overall. Start with the large back plates in two alternating tones before tackling the spirals with a fine marker, so the small details don't overwhelm the drawing early on.
