At the center of the picture, an adult dino with a shell of oval plates walks forward with a smile, two horns raised on either side of its head and a smaller one on its snout. Two young dinos of the same kind, smaller but already marked with the same plates, walk beside it. Behind them, a volcano releases a puff of smoke between two rows of palm trees, while spiral ferns and round boulders line the ground. This coloring page alternates large, smooth areas — the dino's belly, the volcano's cone, the boulders — with small ones, like the dozens of back plates or the jagged palm fronds. A young colorist can stick to the three animals' bodies and the volcano; a more patient one will take time on every plate and every fern. With three characters and a busy background, plan on a good hour to finish. Since all three dinos share the same plate pattern, picking a different color for the adult and for each of the young ones helps keep them apart as you go.
